Characteristics of Carbon Fiber Materials
Carbon fiber, this polymer, is carefully shaped into silk like carbon atoms through a series of carefully designed heating processes. These delicate threads have a diameter of approximately 5-10 microns and a fineness 10-20 times that of human hair.
Carbon fiber filaments are like human hair, slender and elegant. When these monofilaments converge into a bundle, it is like twisting several thin threads into a thick rope, giving carbon fiber the characteristics of lightness and strength, which is a well-known and beloved quality. An important concept when describing carbon fiber is modulus, which refers to the number of filaments in a single bundle. For example, a bundle containing 3000 filaments is called 3K, a bundle containing 6000 filaments is called 6K, and so on. It is worth noting that a higher modulus is not necessarily better, as high modulus may also lead to high brittleness.
Application of carbon fiber in frame manufacturing
In the field of bicycle manufacturing, the description of modulus is not a uniform standard, which has caused some confusion for consumers. Sometimes, a brand's claimed "ultra-high modulus" material may be "softer" in practical applications than another brand's "low modulus" carbon. Therefore, when choosing carbon fiber materials, in addition to focusing on the modulus, attention should also be paid to their performance in practical applications and their application methods in different parts of the frame.
